Tell City officials were notified in May the National Guard armory here would be closed later in the year and the 74 full-time armory staff and soldiers who trained here would be transferred to the unit in Jasper to which they were already reporting.
The armory here was one of three Indiana National Guard armories selected for closure, according to a news release issued from the Guard's headquarters in Indianapolis, which cited fiscal and strategic reasons.
For recent years preceding December 2007, the Tell City-based unit was known as Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 152nd Infantry Regiment. It was then redesignated as Detachment 1 of the Jasper-based Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 151st Infantry Regiment.
The actual closure of the facility came Oct. 1 without ceremony.
