CANNELTON – St. Michael Church Parish Mission presents “Sacred Fire: The Passion Of God In Us.”

The faith community of St. Michael’s in Cannelton will celebrate a four-day parish mission experience Sunday, Sept. 14 through Wednesday, Sept. 17.

The mission will take place each evening in the parish church from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Father John Mark Ettensohn, originally from Perry County and a native son of St. Michael’s, will lead the mission.

He is a member of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate of Belleville, Ill., and will celebrate 25 years of ordination to the priesthood this year.

The Missionary Oblates are a religious community of priests and brothers founded in 1816 by St. Eugene DeMazenod, who later became Bishop of Marseilles, France. The principal focus of their ministry is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the poor, in every sense of that word.

Today nearly 4,000 members carry on their ministry in 68 countries and on every continent.

The theme of the parish mission will be ‘“Sacred Fire: The Passion of God in Us,’ the idea that the Sacred One who created us is present not only all around us but also within us.”
