Tradition brings people together

TELL CITY – Catholic Charities will host its third annual St. Joseph’s Table Sunday, March 30, at the St. Paul parish hall at 824 Jefferson Street in Tell City.

The St. Joseph’s Table is held around the feast day of St. Joseph and is a celebration of the family. This year’s St. Joseph’s Table will include a buffet consisting of turkey, dressing, gravy, green beans, cranberry salad, dessert and a drink.

There will be no advance ticket sales. All sales will be made at the door the day of the meal. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Children 3 and under will eat for free. The buffet will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

St. Joseph’s Table is a centuries-old tradition in Europe with a very strong presence in Italy, particularly Sicily. In some towns, the richest families load their tables with fine meats, special goodies and choice drinks in honor of St. Joseph, the patron saint of fathers and families. The doors to their homes stand open for the day, permitting all to enter and enjoy their hospitality.

In this country, it has evolved into an opportunity for families to join together and share good food and fellowship. No matter where or by whom it is scheduled, St. Joseph’s Table elicits concern for others, renewed friendship, stronger family ties and exceptional hospitality, organizers said.

The St. Joseph’s Table is being sponsored by supporters of Catholic Charities to further its mission of providing help, creating hope and serving all. Proceeds from this benefit will help Catholic Charities support its programs, which include the table of blessings, Lifeline for Families – including the Early Years Store and adoption awareness – emergency assistance and budget-basics training.
