TELL CITY – Catholic Charities will host its second annual St. Joseph’s Table March 17, at the Knights of Columbus home at 11th and Tell streets in Tell City. The St. Joseph’s Table is held around the feast day of St. Joseph, which is March 19. It is a celebration of family.
This year’s St. Joseph’s Table will be a buffet consisting of turkey, mashed po-tatoes and gravy, green beans, slaw, dessert and drink. Advance-purchase tickets for the meal will cost $8 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under. Children 3 and under will eat for free. Ad-vance ticket sales are available by calling Catholic Charities at 547-0903. After March 10 and at the door the day of the event, all ticket prices will increase by $2, making the adult price $10 and the children’s price $7. The buffet will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
St. Joseph’s Table is a centuries-old tradition in Europe with a very strong presence in Italy, particularly Sicily. In some towns, the richest families load their tables with fine meats, special goodies and choice drinks in honor of St. Jos-eph, the patron saint of fathers and families. The doors to their homes stand open for the day, permitting all to enter and enjoy their hospitality.
In this country, it has evolved into an opportunity for families to join together and share good food and fellowship. No matter where or by whom it is scheduled, St. Joseph’s Table elicits concern for others, renewed friendship, stronger family ties and exceptional hospitality, organizers said.
The St. Joseph’s Table is sponsored and underwritten by the Knights of Columbus to benefit Catholic Charities. For more information, contact Catholic Charities at 547-0903 or send e-mail to jhess@catholiccharitiestellcity.org.
