TELL CITY — Hair Razors used clutch hitting to survive close games Monday and Tuesday to reach the championship game of Tell City's age-13-16 girls softball playoff tourney.
Hair Razors was scheduled to play regular-season champion Sports Acceleration for the title Wednesday.
Hair Razors tied Cash Waggner & Associates for third place in the six-team league in the regular season and then won a coin flip with Cash Waggner for the third seed in the playoffs.
That allowed Hair Razors to face sixth seed Coca-Cola in the first round. But Hair Razors played that game without its top two pitchers, as one was working and one was unable to get to the game on time due to a dental appointment.
Coca-Cola, seeking its first win of the season, led most of the game.
But Hair Razors tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning and then won 9-8 on Rachel Woznicki's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Allicyn Garrett hit a double and two singles, Jaci Garrett hit two doubles and Miranda Zuelly added a double for Hair Razors. The Garrett sisters each drove in two runs.
Zuelly and Courtney Blinzinger each pitched three innings for Hair Razors, combining to toss a three-hitter.
No one had more than one hit for Coke.
Hair Razors beat No. 2 seed Frederick Sheet Metal 4-3 Tuesday as Jaci Garrett went 4 for 4 with a double, Zuelly hit a triple and a double, and Allicyn Garrett hit a two-run triple to put her team ahead 4-2.
Megan Lawalin hit an RBI double for Frederick and Payton Reed scored three runs.
Frederick played without No. 1 pitcher Josalyn Ress, who is pitching for an all-star team in Austria this week.
Sports Acceleration nipped R&A Sports 10-9 in Tuesday's other semifinal game.
R&A scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning on two errors, a wild pitch, and a single by Lauren Roberts to tie the score 9-9.
Sports Acceleration scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on walks to Hana Reed and McKenzie Hayes and a single by Sammie James.
Hayes went 3 for 4 to lead Sports Acceleration's 10-hit attack. James added two hits.
Roberts and Haylee Page each had three hits for R&A.
R&A beat Cash Waggner 4-3 in the first round as Roberts hit a triple and a single and Tori Wade hit a double and a single.
Center fielder Wade also made a nice catch of Kosha Wetzel's line drive to end the game with the tying and winning runs on second and third base.
Wetzel went 2 for 4 to lead Cash Waggner's eight-hit attack. Kristi Brumfield added a double.
