Special Olympics returning to Tell City Saturday at Legion Field

TELL CITY – The Perry County organization of Special Olympics Indiana will join St. Meinrad Archabbey-Cooperative Action for Community Development Inc. to host their 47th annual track and field and bocce meet. The event will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Legion Field in Tell City.

“Everyone is welcome to attend this event,” said Vicky Lutgring, county coordinator for Special Olympics Indiana-Perry County. “I promise it will give you a better understanding of our Special Olympics athletes.”
The following events will be held: 50-meter dash, 100 dash, 4 by 100-meter race, 25-meter walk, 50 walk, 400 walk, standing long jump, running long jump, softball throw, tennis ball throw, shot put, bocce, 25-meter wheelchair race and motor activities events.
The event will begin with a parade of athletes and a color guard from local county American Legion members and an invocation by a representative from St. Meinrad Archabbey.
The event will also include a torch run by local athletes and local police officers, the national anthem and the recitation of the Special Olympics oath followed by a morning full of track and field events.
