South Spencer edges Marksmen

REO—Tell City won two of the three singles matches but lost to South Spencer 3-2 in the first round of the IHSAA girls tennis sectional Thursday.

Tell City’s Bethany Peter shut out Jennah Banks 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles.

Peter will thus advance to the No. 1 singles individual sectional this week at Jasper, though whom she will play and when had not been decided at press time.

Tell City sophomore Rachel Woznicki beat Kayla Drwal 7-5, 6-1 for the Marksmen’s other victory.

South Spencer’s Nicole Rogier beat Mary Burst 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles.

The Rebels won both doubles matches in straight sets.

Alix Harpenau and Shayla Ball defeated Alexis Braun and Brooke Birchler 6-3, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles.

Taylor McAnnally and Marissa Poole beat Vivian Clarke and Helen Schmidt 7-5, 6-2 in No. 2.

Tell City finished with a 1-14 team record.
