The children of South Perry Head Start Classroom 2 discussed spring, weather and recycling in April. The students invited special role models to go on a field trip to Mulzer Tower Quarry during the month. While there, they explored a loader with tires taller than themselves.
They went on a bus tour to see daily operations and looked down into a giant pit. The children and their guests enjoyed a lunch provided by the company. After lunch, they decorated pet rocks with paint and craft supplies. Each rock was given its own home and a name chosen by the children with help from their guests who visited the quarry with them. The children learned about big machines and compared different shapes and sizes of rocks. They enjoyed spending time with some special people in their lives.
