CANNELTON - Cannelton's baseball team hasn't lost by the 10-run rule yet, but South Central scored in six of the seven innings to beat the Bulldogs 16-6 Thursday.

Cannelton tied the game 6-6 in the bottom of the third inning with two runs on two walks, a single by Thomas Lane, and RBI grounders by Spencer Herzog and Cody Lawalin.

South Central came right back with four runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good, though.

The Rebels had just two hits that inning, as two walks, two throwing errors and a wild pitch also contributed to those runs.

The Bulldogs hit the ball well early, getting three hits in a four-run first inning.

They included a home run over the left-field fence by Ethan Herzog and a two-run single up the middle by Cody Lawalin.

The Bulldogs had only two hits the rest of the game, though.

Lawalin, a freshman second baseman, led their attack, going 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

T.J. James, the second of four Cannelton pitchers, took the loss, giving up four runs in one-third of an inning.

Chase Gerber, James, Stephen Lane and Tyler Aud each walked two batters and combined to strike out only three - two by Lane.

Cannelton lost a road game at Orleans 13-8 Wednesday.

The Bulldogs led 7-0 going into the bottom of the third inning. Then Orleans rallied for eight runs with the help of two Cannelton errors.

Cannelton outhit Orleans 12-11, with Herzog going 3 for 5.

Cannelton batters struck out only four times. "We're putting the ball in play," said Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett.

Lane, who relieved Aud in the third inning, took the loss. He struck out two and walked one in three innings.

Cannelton, 0-3, will host Perry Central for a doubleheader today at 4:30 p.m.
