Softball sectional pairings made

-A A +A
By Larry Goffinet

INDIANAPOLIS - Tell City and Perry Central's girls softball teams drew Class 2A sectional opponents they have not faced this year while Cannelton drew the Class A sectional favorite.

Sectional pairings were drawn by the IHSAA Thursday morning.

This area's Class 2A sectional will be played at Forest Park's new field at Cedar Crest School, on Indiana 162 at the Bretzville junction.

That six-team sectional begins Monday, May 19, with South Spencer facing Forest Park at 5:30 p.m., Perry County time.

That will be followed by Tell City vs. North Posey at approximately 7:15 p.m.

The winners of those games will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 20.

That will be followed by Perry Central vs. Mater Dei at 7:15 p.m., as those two teams drew first-round byes.

The championship game will be 6 p.m. Thursday, May 22.

Perry Central and Mater Dei have never met in softball.

Tell City and North Posey are PAC opponents, but their conference game has been rained out twice so far this season.

It is now scheduled for today. Thus Tell City will meet the Vikings twice in eight days.

Forest Park, ranked eighth in the state in the Class 2A coaches poll, is the only team in that sectional ranked in the top 10, though North Posey has received votes in the poll several weeks.

The four-team Class A sectional will be played at Northeast Dubois.

Tecumseh, the defending state runner-up, will meet Cannelton in the first game Monday, May 19, at 5:30 p.m., Perry County time.

That will be followed by Wood Memorial vs. Northeast Dubois at approximately 7:15 p.m.

The championship game will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 21.

Tecumseh, ranked fourth in the state, is a heavy favorite in that sectional because of its pitching.

Tecumseh junior Audra Sanders is considered by some coaches the best pitcher in Southwestern Indiana. And Marissa Feagley, the Braves' No. 2 pitcher, threw a no-hitter against Cannelton in the Bulldogs' season opener April 5.
