TELL CITY – The Tell City Junior High Soccer Team will play a record 18 games this year. The season will begin Aug. 15 at home against Mt. Vernon and conclude with the Southern Indiana Junior High Soccer Conference tourney the week of Oct. 1-5.
New teams added to the schedule this year include North Posey, Evansville Christian and Vincennes Rivet.
Tell City will play all teams in the PAC that field junior high and high school soccer teams, including Forest Park, South Spencer, Southridge, Heritage Hills, Gibson Southern, North Posey, and Pike Central.
Tell City plays in the Southern Indiana Junior High Soccer Conference, which includes Southwestern Indiana teams ranging from New Albany to Mount Vernon to Vincennes.
There will be eight home games and seven away games, plus the three-game tournament. The season will also feature 10 reserve games. Two of the home games will feature free-hot-dogs nights, while they last.
The team has 26 players on the coed roster, grades 6, 7, and 8. Most games will be played against boys-only teams. Returning players include goalie Whitaker Lyons, forwards Jace Fischer and Will Simpson, midfielders Leo Simpson, Thomas Simpson, Lizzy Kehl and Brayden Wheatley and defenders Claire Zellers, Emily Pruitt and Josh Gaynor.
All home games will be played at the high-school soccer field, located at William Tell Field Elementary.
The Tell City team is a club team supported by parents and volunteer contributions, with fields and facilities provided by the Tell City-Troy Township School Corp. The field is wheelchair accessible.
The team is coached by Kenny Simpson, Laura Schilling and Ben Napier with Eric Kehl serving as technical adviser.
Admission for each home game will be $3 for adults with high-school and younger people admitted free.
