APALONA - Two coyotes killed between Apalona and St. Isidore Catholic Church likely had canine distemper, not rabies, residents in the area said.
A man killed one of the coyotes he said was acting odd and approached his home. A few days earlier, another young coyote was hit by a vehicle. It, too, appeared ill. Distemper is a viral disease that affects the central nervous system.
Anyone seeing sick wildlife can relay information to local conservation officers by calling the Tell City Police Department at 547-7068.
