Shoals overtakes Cannelton late

SHOALS—Shoals rallied for six runs in its last two at-bats to beat Cannelton 6-5 in baseball Saturday.
Cannelton built a 5-0 lead in the first 4 1⁄2 innings as Jeff Kendall and Bailey Maffia each drove in two runs.
Maffia hit a home run and a double. Kendall added a two-run double and Tristan Simmons went 3 for 4, including a double, with three runs scored.
Simmons pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and five walks and striking out seven.
Bryce Garrett pitched a scoreless fourth inning but was touched for four runs in the fifth. An error, a fielder’s choice, a passed ball and a wild pitch produced the runs.
Errors by the second baseman and third baseman helped set up those runs.
Shoals pitcher Verlbuy hit a double in the sixth off Cannelton reliever Kendall to tie the score. A balk then gave the Jug Rox the lead.
Cannelton outhit Shoals 7-5, though Cannelton batters struck out 13 times.
Five errors also hurt the Bulldogs.
Kendall took the loss despite giving up only one hit and no walks in one inning.
Cannelton will visit Whitesville Trinity Saturday at noon.
