CANNELTON—Mikah Hemmings made seven kills, five blocks and three digs but Cannelton lost to Hancock County 25-15, 25-20, 25-21 in volleyball Tuesday.
Star Bernardi added four kills and three blocks for the Bulldogs. “She really played well for us,” said Cannelton Coach Bridget Bruggeman.
Jordyn Vogt also made four kills. Makala Kellems had eight assists and two digs.
Despite the loss, Bruggeman said, “We played really well tonight. We played as a team—we talked and worked really well as a team.”
Hemmings missed Saturday’s match at Shoals due to a basketball recruiting visit to Bresica University. Without her the Bulldogs started three freshmen and lost 25-6, 25-10, 25-12.
“We weren’t used to our rotation with that lineup,” said Cannelton Coach Bridget Bruggeman. “Our team really lost confidence because Mikah wasn’t there. When you only have two seniors and one of them is not there, it makes a big difference.”
Kellems led the Bulldogs with three assists and Jordyn Vogt made two kills.
Cannelton, 2-20, will visit Rock Creek Friday at 6 .m.
