LEOPOLD—Miranda Claise drove in three runs and pitched a four-hitter as Perry Central defeated South Central 12-2 in girls softball Friday.
Claise struck out five, walked four, and gave up only one earned run.
Teammates Ashley Guillaume and Sydney Goffinet each matched Claise’s three RBIs.
Guillaume hit a double and a single. Goffinet and Morgan Richardson each also went 2 for 4.
The Commodores led only 2-1 going into the bottom of the third inning but then exploded for seven runs.
The game was the season opener for both teams.
“Since it was our first game, the girls were pretty nervous the first two innings,” said Perry Central Coach Mark Rothgerber. “But then they settled down.
“We bunted the ball real well too. Hannah (Edwards) and Lexi (Aders) laid down some nice ones.”
He said the win was a good one for the Commodores because South Central “is a much improved team since last year.”
Perry Central will host Springs Valley for a PLAC game today at 4:30 p.m.
