PETERSBURG—Chris Schaefer pitched a four-hitter as Tell City defeated Pike Central 5-1 in PAC baseball Tuesday.
Schaefer struck out nine and walked none, and his teammates committed only one error.
“He threw a great game,” said Tell City Coach Jason Wilkerson. He was getting ahead (in the count) with his fastball, and he’s learned to throw his curveball in situations for strikes.
“I’ve said it before: When we play a clean baseball game and our pitchers throw strikes, we’re a pretty good team.”
Tell City had 12 hits, with Spenser Beard, Austin Paulin, Trent Rainey and Gant Miller each getting a double and a single.
Beard, Paulin, Rainey, Brian Arnold and Trent Zuelly each had one RBI for the Marksmen.
They had chances to blow the game open but left 10 runners on base. “Five of our outs were balls that were just crushed, though,” said Wilkerson.
Tell City improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in the PAC. “I believe we’re tied with Southridge for first place in the conference,” said Wilkerson. (South Spencer is a half game back at 3-2).
The Marksmen will host Southridge for a PAC showdown today at 5:30 p.m.
