Cannelton event set for Friday; City Hall Park festivities to follow Tell City's parade Sunday

By The Staff

PERRY COUNTY - Sleigh bells will ring Friday and Sunday as Santa Claus, himself, visits Perry County for a pair of weekend parades. Cannelton's parade Friday, sponsored by Harry G. Myers American Legion Post 142 and its auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion detachment, will begin at 7 p.m.

Lineup will begin at 6 p.m. on Old Indiana 237 across from Canary's Power Equipment. The parade route will proceed along Indiana 66 to the stop light at Washington Street, where entries will turn right and proceed to First Street by the floodwall, where they will disband.

Entries from the Tell City area should use either Mozart or Tell street to get to Old Indiana 237 so they can line up without having to turn around on Old Indiana 237. Cannelton entries should be in line by 6 p.m. so they will not have to turn around.

This year's parade will posthumously honor Cannelton Police Chief Kenny Kellems.

All businesses, organizations and individuals are welcome to enter the parade; however, dirt bikes and four-wheelers will not be allowed. The only exception will be for four-wheelers pulling entries. All parade entries should display the name of the individual, business, or organization sponsoring the float so judges can identify them.

Anyone wanting to enter Cannelton's parade is asked to call Ruth Lawalin at 547-3671 or Mary Stephens at 547-8003. Entries will be accepted until parade lineup. Calling Lawalin or Stephens will allow organizers to provide judges a list of entries.

Tell City Parade Sunday

The 2009 Tell City Christmas Parade and Christmas in the Park celebration are set for Sunday. Lineup begins at 3 p.m. in the Tell City High School parking lot with the parade beginning at 4 p.m.

The route will travel west on Tell Street and then turn south on Main Street and continue to Washington Street.

Entries should have signs identifying the sponsoring organizations.

Immediately following the parade, there will be a Christmas in the Park celebration in City Hall Park. Santa Claus will meet children and pose for photos.

Tell City's official tree in the park will also be illuminated.

For information on the parade, sponsored by the city of Tell City and the Tell City Beautification Committee, or park activities following the parade, call Brian Melton at 547-3441 or 549-5144.

Leopold Parade

After the parade, Santa will be in the park to greet youngsters and take gift requests. Stepping Stones Preschool will offer food items.
