JASPER – The Russian National Ballet will perform Swan Lake at the Jasper Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded in Moscow during the transitional period of Perestroika in the late 1980s. Many of the top dancers from across Russia, dedicated to the timeless tradition of classical Russian Ballet, joined the company. Today, the Russian National Ballet Theatre is its own institution, with more than 50 dancers of singular instruction and vast experience.
This performance will be a full-length presentation of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake in four acts. This is a timeless tale of romance and betrayal, intrigue and triumph, performed by some of the top dancers in the world. It is the story of the beautiful swan princess who has a terrible curse upon her, forcing her to take the form of a swan during the day. The only way the curse can be lifted is if she finds true and everlasting love. Prince Siegfried is coming of age and must find a wife. He falls for the beautiful swan princess but is tricked by the curse of the evil sorcerer Rotbart into betraying his love, thereby condemning the swan princess to remain a swan. When the Prince returns to his senses, he overcomes the evil spell which is dashed forever on the rock of true love.
There will only be one performance. Order tickets by calling the Jasper Arts Center (812) 482-3070. Prices are $30 for adults, $27 for seniors and $25 for students and children.
