BY MARY S. SOMMER, News Correspondent, Phone 719-8423 – Our sympathy to the family of Hilda Rahman, who passed away April 6, 2014. May she rest in peace. Her visitation was Wednesday, April 9, at the Becher Funeral home in Ferdinand.

As you may know, our son Urban Leigh Sommer lost his battle with cancer and made his transition to his eternal home April 4, 2014. His obituary was in this past week’s News. He was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery April 8 with Father Brian Esarey officiating at the funeral. It was the hardest thing we ever had to do, but we thank God that he didn’t suffer very long. Thank you, everyone, for your prayers during this difficult time. Sorry if you had to stand in line to get in.

Also, thanks to everyone who helped or contributed in any way to the benefit, which was held Saturday. It was a beautiful, sunny day and a celebration of Urban’s life, along with a fundraiser for expenses incurred during his illness. There were many who helped with this event and it makes us thankful to be living in an area where we have so many good people. A special thanks to JoAnna Sommer for all her late-night coordination of everything and Kim Esarey and Barry Lagrange for their many hours of work and for providing the building and auction service for this. Thanks to many people who donated items for the auctions and bake sales and to Paul Moon for the chainsaw carving of a bench with Urban playing the guitar on one side and a large music note on the other.

Thanks also to all the musicians for their talent: Stan Lagrange, Kelly Clark, Danny Bolin, Bob Thomas Jr., T.J. Xander, Barry Lagrange, Lori Stowe, Carl Sr. and Carl Jr. and Carol Aaron Sommer. This was a very nice tribute to Urban and I could feel his presence in the midst of them. This was something he loved to do. God blessed everyone. If I failed to mention anyone, please forgive me, for my mind is not working very good right now.

Our family treated us to dinner at the Patio restaurant Sunday in honor of our 57th anniversary April 13. Thanks to all of them for the money and card. We are truly blessed.

Happy Birthday to Marcus Thomas, April 17; Pam Sommer, our daughter in-law, April 19, and our granddaughter, Tammy Harrington, April 23. Have a great day everyone.
