Route 66 Yard Sale, Pioneer Village Open House this weekend

PERRY COUNTY – An event that grows each year, the Route 66 Yard Sale offers bargains along Indiana 66 from Troy through Tell City, Cannelton, Rocky Point, Rome, Derby, Dexter, Magnet and Oriole Friday and Saturday. In addition to shopping for bargains, residents are invited to set up sale booths along the route.

Public sale sites include:
• Rocky Point Waterfront Grille parking lot.
• Radio Shack parking lot
• Lincoln Park Plaza Shopping Center and the parking area in front of the  Tell City Clinic.

Setup is first-come, first-serve.

Shubael Little Pioneer Village Open House Saturday, Sunday

The growing pioneer village with restored log cabins, bread oven and other attractions will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 pm. Saturday and Sunday. Chicken dinners will be served Saturday with pork-chop dinners available for purchase Sunday. For dessert, guests can sink their teeth into homemade pie and ice cream.

Other activities include quilting, candlemaking, spinning, weaving, broom making, rail-fence splitting and fireplace cooking inside the restored cabins. Guests can sample freshly made apple butter and bread baked in an 1800s stone oven moved to the village from Bandon.

An old-time church service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday. A new mercantile store will be open and visitors can check out restoration work, still in progress, on the Millstone School that was moved to the village last month. There will also be bluegrass music and displays by the Ohio Valley Tractor Association and Southern Indiana Draft Horse and Mule Association. Several antique cars are also expected.

This weekend’s activities bring to a close the county’s Hoosier Heritage Fall Tour.
