Rockport wins five of its last six regular-season games

ROCKPORT—Rockport won won five of six American Legion baseball games in the past week to conclude its regular season on a high note.
Tell City graduate Dayne Seibert drove in three runs in a 15-2 blowout of Boonville July 9.
Tell City junior C.J. Rowe improved to 4-0 on the mound as Rockport defeated Jasper 11-4 July 10.
Rowe struck out three and got plenty of help from his offense, which belted out 19 hits.
Post 254’s offense exploded for eight first-inning runs in a 17-1 blowout of Washington Friday.
Rockport scored four seventh-inning runs Saturday to break a 2-2 tie with Henderson and grab a 6-2 win.
Jared Lauer scored the inning’s fourth run on a Seibert ground-out.
Rockport’s winning ways were temporarily halted Sunday, as Lyon County used a three-run first inning as a springboard to a 4-2 victory.
Post 254 was unable to overcome an assortment of crucial mistakes, including five errors and 14 stranded base runners.
Tell City senior Rhett Baumeister pitched the first seven innings for Rockport. He shut Lyon County out five innings in a row after giving up three runs in the first inning and one in the second.
Rockport needed extra innings but got back on the winning track with a 10-9 win over Floyds Knobs in the regular-season finale Monday.
Seibert led off the 11th with a double and  reached third base on a passed ball.
After Charleston Roberts walked, Ryan Duvall hit a grounder to short to force Roberts out. But Duvall hustled down the line to beat the double-play attempt, allowing Seibert to score the winning run.
Tell City junior Spenser Beard led Rockport three RBIs.
Rockport finished the regular season 15-5. It drew a first-round sectional bye and will play either Jasper or Boonville in the second round at Boonville Friday at 7 p.m.
