PLYMOUTH — Newburgh scored two unearned runs to edge Rockport 3-2 Friday night, eliminating Post 254 from the American Legion baseball state tourney.
Tell City senior C.J. Rowe pitched a complete game for Rockport, scattering nine singles, walking only one, and striking out three.
Newburgh advanced to Saturday’s championship game against Kokomo.
After beating Remington in the first round Tuesday, Rockport lost to Terre Haute 2-1 Wednesday but beat Plymouth 8-5 Thursday.
Tell City junior Gant Miller hit a double and a single and drove in one run in the win over Plymouth.
Rhett Baumeister and Rowe pitched in relief for Rockport in that game.
Rowe also pitched a scoreless inning in relief against Terre Haute.
Rockport finished the season 23-11.
“We had a great year,” said Rockport Manager Jim Haaff. “We came a long way after a slow start.
“We were really proud of the way our kids handled themselves in the state tourney. They gave it everything they had, and that is all a coach can ask of his players.
“We will be back for another day next season with a host of our players returning.”
