MANCHESTER, England—Former Tell City wrestler Aaron Riley will fight a televised UFC mixed martial arts bout against Ross Pearson Saturday.
The bout will be the first on a card that will be televised on cable network Spike TV beginning at 7 p.m. Perry County time.
Riley, 28, has a 2-3 record in UFC fights, including a controversial loss in which an inexperienced referee stopped the fight prematurely (Riley later avenged that loss), and is 28-11-1 in mixed martial arts overall.
He defeated Jorge Grugel in his last bout, a loss that knocked Grugel out of the UFC.
Pearson, from Sunderland, England, is 1-0 in the UFC and 9-3 in mixed martial arts overall. He won the lightweight tourney in the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter.
Riley now lives in Virginia and trains young mixed martial arts fighters when he is not preparing for a fight himself.
His mother, Betsy Riley of Cannelton, said she is proud of him because he has achieved a longtime dream.
“He watched his first UFC fight when he was 13 and he said then, ‘That’s what I’m going to do someday.’”
