TELL CITY—Tell City senior Jordan Rhodes has signed to play baseball for Brescia University.

Rhodes played second base and pitched a little for the Marksmen this year and played some right field last year. He said Brescia is looking at him as a second baseman.

He hit .271 with a .364 on-base average for the Marksmen this season. He hit five doubles, scored 22 runs, and drove in 11 runs.

Rhodes said Brescia Coach Jeff Falkner “said I’d probably make the travel squad next year but he sees me playing more the following years.”

Rhodes chose Brescia because “I liked their campus and I went to practice with the team and I liked the chemistry among the players.”

He said he didn’t know any of the players, “but they treated me well.”

He plans to major in elementary education.

Tell City Coach Mark Wahl said he thinks Brescia is a good fit for Rhodes.

“The way the kid works he’s going to be successful at whatever he does. He wants to be a teacher and a coach, and Brescia is a great place and has a great school of education.”

Brescia’s team finished 32-22 in the regular season this spring and advanced to the NAIA national tourney.

Rhodes will receive scholarship money because his parents attended Brescia and because he is Catholic, as Brescia is a Catholic university.
