BRANCHVILLE - Anyone wanting to be notified of emergencies at Branchville Correctional Facility can still register for an automated system maintained by the Indiana Department of Correction.

The service was launched early last year and keeps resident informed of prison escapes, environmental hazards or other emergencies. It was activated March 20 when officials discovered three offenders were missing.

Automated calls also announced Thursday's capture of the three men.

Residents must register for the service by calling toll-free, (866) 949-2537. Callers wanting to be alerted to emergencies at Branchville Correctional Facility will be required to give their telephone numbers and the facility's ZIP code, 47514.

Cell-phone numbers are accepted.

In the event of an escape, all registrants will receive detailed information about the escapee, including a physical description and the time of the escape.

The automated calls will also relay specific information on other emergencies that could impact residents.

Branchville Correctional Facility houses 1,300 male offenders. ZIP codes for other DOC facilities can be downloaded at www.in.gov/indcorrection.
