The Moutschka Orchestra was one of the first orchestras in the history of Tell City. It provided music for the many dances held in the city and in Perry County played dinner music for many social affairs.
Joseph Moutschka and his wife, Kathern (Schneider) Moutschka, led the family’s efforts. Pictured in this photo from 1923 are, from the left, Joseph Moutschka; Cletus Moutschka, trumpet; daughter Leone, saxophone; daughter Louise, piano; Antoinette, trumpet; Joe’s nephew, William Moutschka, trombone; daughter Dorothy, xylophone and cousin Sandy Hess, drums. The inset over the piano is Mrs. Moutschka, mother and chaperone.
