Deadline is Oct. 6; absentee balloting begins same day
PERRY COUNTY - Perry Countians wanting to vote in the Nov. 4 general election, but who have not yet registered, have until next Monday to complete the necessary paperwork at the courthouse or by Saturday at Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles branches.
The statewide voter-registration deadline is Oct. 6. Applications must be delivered to the county clerk's office, by mail or in person, by 4 p.m. that day. Registration forms and instructions for submitting them are available in the clerk's office or on the secretary of state's Web site at www.sos.IN. gov.
The last day to register to vote at license branches is Saturday, since branches are closed Sunday and Monday. The Perry County License Branch at 635 Main St. in Tell City is open 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Oct. 6 is also the first day to cast absentee votes before the absentee board. Absentee voting will take place in the commissioners room at the courthouse through Nov. 3. Absentee-voting hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The courthouse will also be open the two Saturdays before Election Day, Oct. 25 and Nov. 1, from 8 a.m. to noon.
Absentee voting can also be done through the mail by filing an application through the clerk's office.
The deadline for receiving absentee-by-mail applications in the clerk's office is Oct. 27.
