LEOPOLD - Perry Central missed three shots in the last 0:37 of overtime and lost to South Spencer 57-55 in boys basketball Saturday.

The Commodores missed two shots within six feet of the basket, then had to foul to stop the clock.

The Rebels' Jake Haynes missed the front end of the one-and-bonus free-throw situation, giving the Commodores another chance.

T.J. Lamon got an open three-point shot on the right wing, but it bounced off the rim as the horn sounded.

The Commodores put themselves in a 12-point hole as they trailed 40-28 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter they pressed all over the court to get back in the game.

South Spencer outshot the Commodores from the field 56.1 percent to 36.4 percent.

"We came out flat in the first quarter, then (did it) again in the third quarter," said Perry Central Coach Matt Carter. "I was disappointed in our defense. We didn't guard anyone.

"We were up four points in the fourth quarter with less than two minutes to go and turned it over. Then there was a moving screen that gave them the ball back, so we didn't get to take the last shot (in regulation)."

Nick Huber scored 21 points to lead Perry Central. Justin Smith led South Spencer with 22 points.

Wes Linette grabbed seven rebounds for the Commodores. Mac Webb had nine for the Rebels, who outrebounded the Commodores 31-25.

Huber and Lamon each made three steals for the Commodores and Zach Rogier had five assists.

Perry Central dropped to 10-7. South Spencer improved to 7-10.

The Commodores will play at Northeast Dubois Thursday at 7 p.m.
