TELL CITY—Forest Park jumped to a 16-0 lead and beat Tell City 51-36 in PAC girls basketball Thursday.

The Marksmen went 0 for 9 from the field in the first quarter and 0 for 2 at the free-throw line.

They were 0 for 5 on free throws before Mariah Alvey hit one for their first point of the game.

“We were getting good shots,” said Tell City Coach John Lyons. “But we just couldn’t knock down a shot to save our lives.

“Forest Park played man-to-man defense the first quarter and we did a good job running our offense.

“We only had 13 turnovers for the game, which is probably our season low.

“Take away the first quarter and we played right with them.”

Center McKenzie Hayes led Tell City with 18 points.

Senior frontliner Amanda Braunecker and junior guard Jordan Theising each scored 15 points for Forest Park.

Braunecker did most of her scoring in the low post while Theising hit three three-point shots.

Tell City fell to 1-19 overall, 0-8 in the PAC. Forest Park improved to 15-7 overall, 4-4 in the conference.

The Marksmen drew a first-round bye in the Tell City sectional and will play either Perry Central or South Spencer Friday at 5:30 p.m.
