TELL CITY – The Tell City Common Council will hear public comments this evening on a proposed annexation of more than 1,700 acres.

The hearing is open to the public and will be part of the city council’s monthly meeting. It will begin at 7 p.m. in the upstairs council chambers at City Hall.

The council won’t vote on an annexation ordinance until its April meeting.

The council held a first reading on an annexation ordinance in December and has mailed notices to affected property owners. The city held an informational gathering of property owners last month at the Schergens Center to address questions.

The city wants to incorporate areas of Troy Township along new Indiana 237 and Indiana 37, including vacant land along both highways, the site of the new Perry County Memorial Hospital as well as land extending beyond Burglen Hills.

If adopted, the annexed areas would add $14.8 million to the city’s assessed valuation.

Separate studies estimate the annexation area contains between 400 and 600 people.
