EVANSVILLE—Perry Central senior Cathryn Peter placed third in the 3200-meter run at the girls track regional Tuesday to qualify for the state meet.
Peter set a personal record as she ran the 3200 in 11:46.93, just two seconds from Rachael Rayford’s school record.
The top eight in each event scored but only the top three qualified for the state meet, which will be held 2 p.m. June 1 at Indiana University’s track. The 3200 will start at 7:15 p.m.
Peter, Megan Thomas, Grace James and Marie Schwartz placed fourth in the 3200 relay in 10:13.24.
Tell City’s Logan Flannagan just missed qualifying for state in the 300 low hurdles as she placed fourth in 47.37 seconds, 81-hundredths of a second behind third place.
Perry Central’s Amber Lindauer placed seventh in that race in 49.46.
James, Allison Parker, Lindauer and Sarah Spires placed sixth in the 1600 relay in 4:19.01.
No other Perry Countians scored.
Flannagan was 11th in the 100 intermediate hurdles in 17.59.
Claire Strobel of Reitz, the daughter of Tell Citian Scott Strobel, placed fourth in that race in 15.95
Tell City’s Kassidie Hayes was 11th in the shot put at 34 feet, 9 inches, a personal record.
Flannagan and Perry Central’s Ashley Gengelbach tied for 13th in the high jump, each clearing 4 feet, 8 inches.
Perry Central’s Jordan Sprinkle was 14th in the discus with a 91-foot-4 throw.
Perry Central scored 16 points in the meet to finish 11th among 38 teams that scored. Tell City tied for 23rd with five points.
Terre Haute North won the meet with 142 points.
