Perry County SWCD accepting supervisor applications

CANNELTON – Perry Countians interested in conservation of soil, water and other related natural resources may want to consider a position with the Perry County Soil and Water Conservation District.

The district is accepting applications for an elected supervisor position. The individual would serve as an elected district supervisor for a three-year term, beginning in January 2013. Jim Fiedler’s term will expire and he has chosen not to run for supervisor.

Candidates for election must be an occupier of a tract of land that is located within the county; maintain a permanent residence within the county and be qualified by training and experience to perform the duties.

Established by Indiana law, a SWCD is a legal subdivision of state government responsible for the protection, conservation and wise use of soil, water and related natural resources within the county boundaries. The board meets the second Tuesday evening of each month.

Also, the district is looking for someone to represent Perry County on the Lincoln Hills Resource Conservation and Development Area Board. For information about the board contact the district office at 547-4686.
