LANESVILLE - Perry Central hit only 31.9 percent from the field and committed 23 turnovers in a 49-38 girls basketball loss to Lanesville Monday.
Perry Central built a 10-point lead once in the first half and still led 22-21 at halftime.
But Lanesville outscored the Commodores 10-3 in the third quarter to take the lead for good.
"They were patient," said Perry Central Coach Sarah Spindler of the Eagles. "They set really good screens and we had a little trouble getting through them."
On offense she thought the Commodores settled for outside shots too much or passed the ball around the perimeter until they threw it away.
"We've got to learn to attack the basket - that's one thing we could have done a lot better."
On the positive side, she said, "We handled pressure better. They tried several different defenses, including a full-court press and a trap. But we did not make our turnovers against the press."
Senior center Alie Schroeder led Perry Central with 15 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. She hit 6 of 13 shots from the field and 3 of 5 free throws.
Hilarie Hahus added seven points on 3 of 6 field-goal shooting. But no other Commodore hit more than one-third of her shots.
Audra Gehlhausen and Katie Schwartz each added six rebounds.
Lavina Schwartz made three steals for the Commodores.
Senior guard Beth Glomb led Lanesville with 15 points.
Perry Central fell to 1-4 while Lanesville improved to 2-1.
The Commodores will visit Crawford County for a PLAC game tonight at 7.
