LEOPOLD — Emily Sprinkle, a fifth-grader from Perry Central Elementary, was the Perry County winner of the Annual David Deuter Essay Contest.  This is the 13th year for the Indiana Troopers Association essay-writing award.

The contest was renamed the David Deuter Essay Contest a couple of years ago to honor a fallen trooper. Students were asked to write about the topic, “What is a good citizen?”

Emily was recognized in a ceremony Friday in the rotunda of the State Capitol in Indianapolis.  There she was presented a plaque, an all-paid admission to the State Police Camp, and a $500 savings bond.

Emily is the daughter of Dennis and Caryn Sprinkle.
