MARENGO—Morgan Richardson and Brittany Parker combined for 16 fourth-quarter points as Perry Central beat Crawford County 50-44 in PLAC girls basketball Tuesday.
Crawford County took a four-point lead early in the fourth quarter. But Perry Central rallied behind “a better defensive effort” that period, said Perry Central Coach Ty Guillaume.
“Our hands were really active,” he added. “We got some deflections and slowed their offense down.”
The Commodores also “started penetrating their zone a lot better in the second half,” said Guillaume. “When we were able to beat their press, we were able to get some easy shots.”
And once they took the lead, they hit free throws—something else they did not do early in the game.
They hit 7 of 8 at the line in the last 1:30—Richardson hit 5 of 6 and Parker 2 of 2—after making only 6 of 15 earlier.
Parker finished with 19 points and Richardson added 17.
Richardson scored eight first-quarter points, including two three-pointers, to keep the Commodores in the game early.
Sydney Goffinet grabbed 10 rebounds, Hannah Edwards nine, and Parker seven for the Commodores.
Perry Central improved to 4-3 overall, 1-0 in the PLAC. Crawford County fell to 2-4 overall, 0-2 in the conference.
The Commodores will host Orleans tonight at 7.
