ST. MARKS - A Perry Central elementary student is finding support among classmates and the community in his fight against liver cancer.
Tyler Zoglman, a fifth-grader, was diagnosed recently with carcinoma fibrolameller liver cancer and underwent a nearly 10-hour surgery to remove a tumor. He was scheduled to begin his third round of chemotherapy this week.
"A staff of five doctors are taking very good care of him at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville," a family member wrote in an e-mail update. An account in Tyler's name has been established at Fifth Third Bank and will be used to help pay for medical and travel expenses. His fellow students and school staff held a pep rally in his honor last month. Many wore green "Fight Like a Commodore" T-shirts.
The News had planned to interview Tyler Monday but he had an unexpected doctor's appointment. A story on his fight with cancer is planned soon.
