LEOPOLD—Perry Central played strong man-to-man defense to beat Tell City 36-19 in eighth grade boys basketball Thursday.
The Commodores also made some steals and turned some of them into layups as they jumped to a 10-0 lead.
Tell City scored its first points on a three-point basket just before the first-quarter buzzer.
Perry Central also held the Archers scoreless the first 5:15 of the third quarter.
Abe Schwartz led Perry Central with 13 points and two assists.
Adam Kleaving added seven points and Tanner Cassidy scored six. Derek Thomas grabbed five rebounds and made three steals.
Brian Arnold led Tell City with 11 points.
Dacota Schaad had 13 points and five rebounds as Perry Central won the seventh grade game 38-22.
Michael Lander added six points and Andrew Huber made four steals.
“We moved well without the ball and hit the open people,” said Perry Central Coach Bob Linne.
Brennan Malone scored eight points to lead Tell City.
Perry Central, 5-0 in each grade, will host Crawford County tonight at 5:30.
Tell City, 1-4 in each grade, will host South Spencer tonight at 5.
