LEOPOLD – This past semester the Perry Central economics classes competed in the state-wide Stock Market Game Simulation. Three teams finished 1-3 in the Evansville District among 289 teams competing. These three teams also finished second, fourth and 15th in the state out of 1,727 teams competing.
Each team began the 10-week simulation with $100,000. They invested the money in mainly securities, even though they could have purchased bonds. Team 871 ended with a value of $129,903.18, which was 20 percent above the S&P 500 Growth Average. Team 877 finished with $124,270.55 and Team 875 finished with $119,579.16.
The teams have been competing in the simulation for the past 17 years and have been sponsored and advised by Jon Scheer, Edward Jones Investments. During this time the teams have garnered 15 first-place finishes, 11 second-place finishes, six third-place finishes and one fourth-place finish. The students were recognized May 12 on the USI campus with a luncheon and awards ceremony.
Team 871 members were Jessica Hall, Tara Claise, Rachael Rayford and Aly Wright.
Team 877 members were Brianna Carlquist, Latisha Bryant and Caitilyn Ubelhor.
Team 875 members were Sloan Harpenau, Chelsea Hendricks and Olivia Schroeder
