LEOPOLD - Perry Central School Board members approved a tentative 2009-10 calendar at last Monday's regular meeting.
The short session came hours after a Perry Central student lost her life in a three-vehicle accident on Indiana 37 north of Tell City.
The proposed schedule calls for classes to begin Aug. 12, with teachers starting the semester a day earlier. The first semester will end Dec. 22.
Vacation days during the first half of the school year include Labor Day, Sept. 7; Oct. 26-27 for fall break and Thanksgiving break, Nov. 26-27. The school year will resume in 2010 on Jan. 4 and wrap up May 25 for students and May 26 for teachers. Perry Central's Class of 2010 is scheduled to graduate Sunday, May 30.
Students will be away from classes Jan. 18 for Martin Luther King Day; Feb. 12 and Feb. 15, which is Presidents Day; March 22-26 for spring break, Good Friday, April 2 and Easter Monday, April 5, and May 7 and May 10.
Each semester has 90 student days and 91 for teachers. Several makeup days are built into the calendar, should students miss school due to inclement weather or other problems. They are Oct. 27, Jan. 18, Feb. 12, Feb. 15, April 5, May 7 and May 10. Additional missed days will be added to the end of the school year.
