LEOPOLD - Family wellness is the theme of this year's health fair at Perry Central from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and there will be lots of fitness activities and health-and-safety booths for the whole family.
The annual event presented by Perry Central Family Outreach and co-sponsored by Perry County Memorial Hospital will feature more than 40 health and safety booths, a free spring soup and salad supper, health screenings and family fitness activities.
New to the health fair this year will be giant inflatables for children to bounce on and crawl through in the dome. This activity, along with line dancing, family fitness walking and healthy eating info, is sponsored by the Perry County Wellness Program funded through a Welborn Foundation grant and will be supervised by members of the newly formed Captains Club.
The Health Fair annually attracts about 400 people and offers health screenings, information on such things as stress, new immunization requirements, drug prevention, community health agencies and summer fitness opportunities as well as lots of activities for children like tours of emergency vehicles.
Jackie Colucci, family outreach coordinator said "the families come for the free supper, the fun activities like the inflatables and free healthy food samples and leave with lots of new information on keeping their families well and safe."
She said the event is made possible each year thanks to the collaboration of the hospital and many local community agencies. For more information on the event, which is open to all, call 843-5122.
