FRENCH LICK—Rough conditions meant higher than usual scores, but Perry Central had its best finish ever in the PLAC boys golf tourney Monday.
The Commodores placed fourth in the seven-team tourney, one place higher than their previous best, with 370 strokes.
Host Springs Valley won with 342 on the Donald Ross course.
“The last nine holes were pretty much played in the rain, and that’s a tough course anyway,” said Perry Central Coach Bill Dickerson. “But some of our kids played better after (the rain started).”
Zach James led Perry Central with 88, including 41 on the back nine. “That’s a pretty good score,” said Dickerson.
He was only three strokes away from making all-conference, an honor that went to the top eight finishers.
Andrew Huber shot 92, Nic Pierrard 94, and Coby Aders 96 to complete the Commodores’ scoring.
Eric Schepers was their fifth man with 101.
Nine of the 35 players in the tourney finished over 100.
Huber was scoring well early but was 5 over par on the last three holes combined.
Hunter Whitaker of Springs Valley was the medalist. He and Zak Brooking of Mitchell each shot 81, but Whitaker won a playoff for the individual title.
Springs Valley edged Paoli by two strokes for the team title. Paoli would have won by three strokes but its No. 2 golfer was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard.
Perry Central, 8-22, will compete in the Jasper sectional at Sultan’s Run course Friday. The Commodores’ first golfer will tee off at 8 a.m. Perry County time.
Team scores: Springs Valley 342, Paoli 344, Mitchell 345, Perry Central 370, Crawford County 377, West Washington 403, Orleans 441
