LEOPOLD – Perry Central’s Marching Commodores earned third-place finishes in two competitions Saturday.

Southridge High School stole the Class D morning show, taking first place at the Castle Invitational and all but its color-guard caption award, which went to second-place South Spencer High School.

Perry Central performed at 10:31 a.m. to open that contest and finished ahead of Northeast Dubois, Washington and Tecumseh high schools.

The point spread was close among the top three finishers, with Perry Central 4.3 points out of first place and 1.55 points away from second.

Competing in Class A, they fell in line behind South Knox and Gibson Southern high schools at the Evansville North Invitational, which they also opened at 4 p.m. Northeast Dubois finished fourth with a score 14.15 points lower than the Commodores’.

The News was unable to contact the band’s director for this story.

The Perry Central performers will compete in Class D at the district level at Jasper High School Saturday, taking the field second at 11:13 a.m. Eastern time. Orleans will open the class with an 11 a.m. performance and awards for that class will follow Springs Valley’s 1:49 p.m. show.
