-A A +A

MITCHELL—Andrew Huber won four events to earn the Most Valuable Performer award as Perry Central won the PLAC boys track meet for the ninth straight year Friday.
The Commodores scored 156.5 points, 74.5 more than runner-up Springs Valley.
Huber set a meet record as he won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 40.42 seconds.
He also won the 110 high hurdles in 15.72 and the high jump at 6 feet.
He teamed with Bryce Lain, Dacota Schaad and Michael Schwartz to win the 1600 relay in 3:37.19.
Springs Valley’s Tristan Parmley also won three individual events. But his team finished second to Huber’s in the 1600 relay, so Huber edged Parmley by half a point for MVP.
Perry Central’s Aaron Pierrard broke the school record that he previously shared with Alex Newton as he won the 1600 run in 4:25.60.
Pierrard also won the 3200 in 9:59.67 and teamed with Michael Schwartz, Lane Lynch and Lain to win the 3200 relay in 8:29.48.
Lain also won the 800 in 2:01.18 and Michael Schwartz was second in 2:10.47.
Perry Central senior Austin LeClere, who did not shot put until a month ago, won it with a 47-foot-10 1⁄2 throw.
Schaad placed a close second to Parmley in two sprints.
He ran the 100 in 11.69 to Parmley’s 11.29 and the 200 in 23.65 to Parmley’s 23.47.
“I was really pleased with our times because it was not good running conditions,” said Perry Central Coach Jason Barnett. “It was cold, rainy and windy.”
The Commodores exceeded their seeds in several events.
“Ben Hauser was not seeded to score in either hurdles race and he placed fifth in both of them,” noted Barnett.
Perry Central will compete in the Jasper sectional Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
