LEOPOLD – Indiana 9th District Rep. Todd Young has announced his nominations for the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo. and the U.S. Merchant Marines Academy at Kings Point, N.Y.
Perry Central Community School’s John Hilgenhold was among three Indiana students nominated to both the Naval and Air Force academies.
“I continue to be impressed by the quality of students applying to our great military service academies,” said Young. “As a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy myself, I’m proud to see such strong candidates applying each year. I hope all Hoosiers share my pride in our young men and women who are selflessly pursuing these opportunities in service to our country.”
Receiving a congressional or senatorial nomination is required for admission into U.S. service academies, but does not guarantee admission. Each year in the fall, Young has conducted an informational Service Academy Day where representatives from each school meet with interested high-school students. Later in the fall, nomination selection boards made up of southern Indiana residents help determine who will receive the 9th District nominations.
