William Tell Elementary students wore hats Oct. 12 to honor fellow kindergarten student Alexis Dalton, who has acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and who is “a picture of determination and stamina,” according to students and staff.
She is taking treatments monthly in Louisville, Ky., and usually returns to school the very next day. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients assists children in Kentucky and southern Indiana with blood cancers. WTE students donated pennies to wear their hats to school and the school collected more than $3,500 in coins and bills. Pictured with the donations are Stacy Fleck, WTE’s school nurse who is a Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor, and Alexis Dalton. The money will be donated to the LLS in honor of Dalton.
