TELL CITY – Beginning Jan. 9, Perry County Memorial Hospital will host its first COPD Support Group Meeting at 1:30 p.m. in Conference Room C. The topic will be “What is COPD?”
COPD stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Chronic means long-term; obstructive refers to blockage in the airways of the lung and pulmonary refers to the lungs.
The most common obstructive lung diseases are chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, bronchiectasis and cystic fibrosis.
Having COPD is difficult not only for the individual with the disease but also for the family. Living with chronic lung disease means learning to control it; one way to do this is to learn all you can about it.
This support group will help individuals with COPD and their families understand and manage COPD. Sharing information with the healthcare team, along with others who have the disease, will help the individual feel more in control of their health.
The goal is for everyone to live a happier, healthier life.
The group will meet the second Monday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at Perry County Memorial Hospital, located at One Hospital Road, Tell City. All meetings will be held in Conference Room C in the lower level at PCMH.
