PC wins both titles in Tell City invitational

TELL CITY - Perry Central had six of the top 11 finishers as it won Tell City's seven-team junior high boys cross country invitational Thursday.

The Commodores scored 25 points, 45 ahead of runner-up Heritage Hills. Tell City finished sixth with 138 points.

Perry Central also won the girls title, edging Heritage Hills 46-47. Tell City was fifth with 103 point.

Tell City's Tori Payne won the girls race in 13:18, 25 seconds ahead of runner-up Sarah Lindsey of South Spencer. But Perry Central had four of the next 10 finishers.

Ben Woolems of Heritage Hills won the boys race in 11:37.

He was followed by three Perry Central runners: Paul Schwartz was second in 11:55, Abe Schwartz third in 12:08, and Alex Newton fourth in 12:24.

Andrew Huber was sixth in 12:59 and Nathan Schwartz 10th in 13:10 to complete the Commodores' scoring.

Nathan Bashor, their sixth man, placed 11th in 13:18. He finished ahead of Heritage Hills' fourth man and ahead of three teams' first finisher.

Michael Schwartz, 27th in 14:25, also ran for the Commodores.

Caleb Sherry led Tell City, finishing 18th in 13:51.

Cameron Sherry was 23rd in 14:04, Mason Waninger 30th in 14:39, Zach Ziegelgruber 32nd in 14:44, and Spenser Beard 35th in 15:01.04 to complete the Archers' scoring.

Ryan Vogt, 46th in 18:22, and Timmy Holman, 48th in 20:26, also ran for the Archers.

Four boys ran for Cannelton. Kelly Wirthwein was 40th in 15:53, Logan Nugent 46th in 18:23, Logan Northerner 49th in 21:26, and Caleb Cravens 50th in 21:27.

Marie Schwartz led Perry Central in the girls race, placing third in 13:48. Her sister, Rosa, was fifth in 14:19.

Other Perry Central scorers were Brittany Parker, 10th in 14:59; Verna Schwartz, 12th in 15:20; and Autumn Lain, 21st in 16:00.

Besides Payne, Tell City scorers were Loren Braunecker, 15th in 15:29.2; Hanna Goffinet, 22nd in 16:01; Mariah Blake, 34th in 18:03; and Erica Wilson, 39th in 19:22.

Cinnamon Lampson, 43rd in 19:51, also finished for the Archers.

Two Cannelton girls ran. Allison Wirthwein was 33rd in 17:59 and Maddi Simpson 45th in 34:58.
