TELL CITY—Zach Graves shot a 6-over-par 41 for medalist honors as Perry Central placed second in a boys triangular golf match Monday.

Jasper won with 171 strokes. Perry Central shot 180 and Tell City 190.

Corey Young shot a 42 to lead Tell City.

Besides Graves, Perry Central scorers were Charles Weatherholt with a 45 and Logan Shearn and Jonathan Flamion each with a 47. Brad Douglas was their fifth man with a 48.

Weatherholt scored the only birdie by a Perry County player as he chipped in a shot on the par-4 No. 9 hole.

Victor Schutzius and Jake Roland each shot a 47 to tie for Tell City’s second scorer.

Alex Cole completed the Marksmen’s scoring with a 54 and Nathan Wood was their fifth man with a 57.

“We struck the ball halfway decent,” said Perry Central Coach Bill Dickerson. “For the most part we kept the 8s, 9s and 10s off our scorecards.

“I had Zach play without his driver to try some different things. He’s got a beautiful swing—he can hit it anywhere from 210 to 230 (yards) with a 3-wood. And Tell City’s not a long course.”

Dickerson was also pleased to have five players shoot 48 or better. “Our fourth and fifth men were the main difference between us and Tell City today,” he noted.

Tell City Coach Jim Meek agreed that “we needed to put another guy in the 40s today. Alex Cole shot a 43 in a practice round Friday. And he played four holes very well today but had some trouble on the other five.

“Logan Bolin, who’s generally our No. 3 man, has a back injury, so we elected not to play him tonight.”

Tell City also finished third in a triangular meet Tuesday. Southridge shot 167, Gibson Southern 178, and Tell City 196.

Young led Tell City with a 45. Roland shot 46 and Cole 49.

Schutzius and A.J. Flynn tied for the Marksmen’s fourth scorer at 56. Wood shot 61.

“I’m proud of Jake Roland--he’s continuing to improve,” said Meek. But “with this team we should have four guys in the 40s every match.”

Tell City, 3-10, will visit Southridge next Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Perry Central, 9-10, will play Crawford County and Paoli at Old English today at 4:30 p.m.
