LEOPOLD—Perry Central used its pressure defense to outscore Orleans 16-8 in the fourth quarter and beat the Bulldogs 41-32 in PLAC girls basketball Thursday.

The Commodores led only 25-24 after three quarters but held Orleans to just two field goals in the final period.

“I think we wore them down a little bit,” said Perry Central Coach Bill Dickerson. “We got some steals and got loose on some breaks.

“And we started taking the ball to the basket. They play really aggressive man-to-man and they were overplaying us, so we took advantage of that by taking the ball to the basket strong.”

Deidra Dickerson drove to the basket a lot in the fourth quarter as she scored 10 points in the period on three field goals and 4 for 5 free-throw shooting.

She finished with a game-high 16 points on 5 of 10 field-goal shooting and 5 of 7 free throws.

Lavina Schwartz added eight points, including 2 for 3 three-point shooting.

The Commodores hit 37.1 percent from the field.

Dickerson grabbed eight rebounds and Katie Schwartz added seven.

Rachael Rayford made seven steals, including a couple of key ones in the fourth quarter, and had three assists.

Freshman point guard Shelbi Samsil and Lauren Berning each scored eight points for Orleans.

Perry Central improved to 7-2 overall, 3-0 in the PLAC. Orleans fell to 5-5 overall, 0-1 in the conference.

The Commodores will play Heritage Hills in the PSC Holiday Classic at Tell City tonight at 6.
