LANESVILLE—Perry Central used pressure defense in the third quarter to pull away to a 54-33 girls basketball victory over Lanesville Monday.

The Commodores led only 22-15 at halftime but outscored Lanesville 19-7 in the third quarter with the help of their press.

“I thought our defensive pressure made the difference,” said Perry Central Coach Bill Dickerson. “They’re pretty big but we made it hard for them to run their half-court offense.”

Perry Central made 16 steals for the game, with Lavina Schwartz getting seven and Rachael Rayford five.

On offense Perry Central used balanced scoring to pull away, with six Commodores scoring in the third quarter.

Hilarie Hahus, Deidra Dickerson and Amy Schwartz each hit a three-point basket that period.

Hahus finished with a team-high 12 points on 5 of 8 field-goal shooting, including 2 of 2 from three-point range.

Lavina Schwartz added 10 points, Amy Schwartz had a career-high nine, and Rayford scored eight.

Reserve guard Tessa Lynch led the Commodores in rebounds with eight. Rayford had four assists.

Ashley Schoen led 3-3 Lanesville with 15 points.

Perry Central won the junior varsity game 22-11 as Megan Lindauer scored eight points and Ashley Graves grabbed 10 rebounds.

Perry Central, 4-1 in varsity and 2-2 in JV, will visit Crawford County tonight at 5:30.
